Quiltmaker is one of my favorite magazines. This is my second feature in the Quiltmaker 100 Blocks magazine, and I am honored to be included. Issue 7 is due out on May 7th. I love to quilt, and my second favorite thing to do is reading. Reading is a hobby that I picked up as a young girl, and have done it my whole life. *ahem* Some would say I spend too much time reading (I seem to always get in trouble with the husband :D) Having a busy life with my husband and our 4 busy kids, then you now add our new farm into the mix (9 goats, 6 pigs, 2 calves, and 60 chicks~oh my!), reading is my down time, my escape so to speak. This is where I got my inspiration for my block design. I designed a block of a girl with her nose in a book, almost quite literally. And what better than covering up with a quilt while you enjoy that book? I love to do them both together.
I did make a second block, and for the heck of it, I decided to hand embroider it and then I did a really weird and bazaar thing for myself, I did something out of my comfort zone, I sent it to one of my favorite authors, and the hand embroidering that I did on it was of the cover to her first book. This amazingly talented author is
Colleen Hoover (and her first book was called Slammed, amazing! the second book in that series is called Point of Retreat, and actually today her third book is being released called This Girl.) Anywho, in my haste to send it to her I forgot to take a picture of it, so I emailed her last week and asked if she could take a picture of it for me so that I could share it with you all, so here is the picture :D
I love this block, now I need to make another one for myself.
